‘A place to grow’ by Dr Garry Wilson

Since joining us in 2017 at our Anfield practice, Dr Garry Wilson quickly realised how much support mydentist offers to newly qualified Dentists. Winner of “Young Dentist of the Year” at our 2017 Clinical Conference, Garry has strived to continuously improve with a fully supportive team in practice and a connected clinical community

The largest network of local practices in the UK all working together

“I heard so much about the support and training that is offered at mydentist, and I felt it would be a great springboard to help me better myself as a Dentist, and I haven’t looked back. For a newly- qualified Dentist, having the reassurance that help is always on hand, or on the other end of the phone, for any clinical matters is really reassuring. Having a Clinical Support Manager to consult for a second opinion or to bounce ideas off is a really valuable thing.

My current practice is a super busy 7 surgery practice in Anfield, not far from the famous football stadium! The team are amazing – everyone is on the ball, we all have a wonderful time together, and we are looked after amazingly by our Practice Manager Sarah and Treatment Coordinator Hayley. I couldn’t ask for a friendlier or more supportive team”.

You’ll be surprised at what you can achieve

“Since joining mydentist, the massive amount of courses available has been a really welcome ‘cherry on the cake’ in terms of helping me update my knowledge and expand my skills. I have looked to instigate a peer review group in my practice, as a way of enabling the dentists to learn from each other and develop a real team spirit, and my practice manager has been completely supportive of this.

My advice to Foundation Dentist’s looking for role would be to take on a reasonable target, which you won’t stress over and struggle to reach, and to consider the wonderful opportunities working for mydentist presents. Unlike Independent practices, working conditions will be largely the same in whichever practice you choose, everything will certainly be above- board and done ‘by the book’, and there is massive scope to grow and develop in here.

The important thing to bear in mind is that you still have plenty to learn at the end of Foundation Training, and it is better to have a support network around you to ease the transition”

A career to last a lifetime

“I have grown so much as a person and a Dentist since joining mydentist, thanks to the courses and CPD on offer; I am now trained in 2 different short- term orthodontic systems, and have become an advanced practitioner in toxin and dermal filler treatments, as well as furthering my knowledge of endodontics and prosthodontics. As far as what is next, I am hoping to continue to further my skills and be able to constantly improve the standard of patient care I am able to offer”.
